First time Club Med Experience
This was my first time at a Club Med. I went with my wife and two teenage kids. Overall it was a positive experience. The variety of activities and the friendliness of the staff were exceptional. I learnt sailing, archery and pickleball during my stay and the staff were knowledgeable and patient. The food and drinks staff were friendly and attentive. Maybe a slight improvement for drinks at the meals. The cleaning staff were excellent, both in our room and around the resort. The location is spectacular, with beautiful sunsets each night.
Our room did not meet our expectations. We had a family deluxe room, and the balcony was a disappointment. Based on the pictures we anticipated a table to sit out at, but there was barely enough room for two chairs. The room layout was also a little funny, with the toilet in the kids room, not the shared bathroom area. Alcohol should also be available in the room fridge in case you want to have a quiet drink in your room (or on your super small balcony).
While the food was generally good, on both Thursday and Friday nights there were long queues for certain dishes which led to a bad meal experience. We were told the resort was not near full capacity (between 50% and 60% of capacity on both these nights).
While people who have not been to a Club Med might think the dress code and activities, and the GOs eating meals with you might be a turn-off, we found this was not the case at all. The dress code was very optional, as was participation in activities. I wouldn't describe myself as a people person, but on the occassions when a GO joined us for a meal, it was quite enjoyable to hear about their experience working for Club Med, and they seemed genuinely interested in how our experience was going.
